I'm thinking of doing a monthly meetup, something that will be at the same time and place every month. the purpose will be to get together, meet and network, showcase our work to each other, and maybe even do some critique.
Let's start a discussion about this on the forum, I'de love to hear location ideas, time ideas, and so on.
I'm thinking something like every last Thursday of the month somewhere in Burlingame (kind of in the middle) Let me know your thoughts.

So this is the official discussion about this subject. Please add your thoughts here.
Thanks!

I think this is a great idea. Libraries have meeting rooms that can be reserved for free. Sometime after work (7pm?) would be great. +1 for Burlingame also.

The closer to Santa Cruz, the better for me.

I know you did one online chat that I wasn't able to participate in. That would work well for me, provided that it jived with my schedule.

I can do it both online and in person.
Not sure about Santa Cruz, I probably do it in Mountain View (Close to me)

Santa Cruz is pretty far for most of us bay people, although I definitely don't mind rolling down there every once and awhile - I lived there for ten years - TONS of beautiful shoot locations.

Library sounds like a good place to meet, or maybe a community center. I do prefer a location where we don't necessarily need to be quiet, though.

How about setting up a laptop with WIFI (if it's available) and streaming the meeting live through UStream or something similar, so those who can't meet in person can at least see/hear the meeting?

By the way, hi all. First post. :)

Hi Namu,

Thanks for your inputs! I did few online meetings that where not very successful.
I can try again another time if I see more people are interested.
The whole point of the meetings are to actually "meet" everyone :)
Looking forward to meeting you.

I agree completely, but I meant we have an actual live meeting AND set up the webcam at the meeting, so that the people not able to attend can view the rest of us living members, haha. Of course, that's really only feasible when the meeting is in one place and not a walk-around, for example.

I know this hasn't been talked about in a while, but I think it would be a great thing to do every month to network with other photographers in our specialities. Especially wedding photographers I think it would be great to network with each other so that we can share calendars and refer clients to each other if we are already booked for that date. Also talk about areas for cool portrait sessions etc. I hope that it can be worked out. Maybe every other month if it gets to be too much.

thoughts?

This is a great idea. I'd love to do some networking. I can check for a room at libraries in the San Mateo area if there is enough interest.
