Stanford Memorial Church (map)
I'd love to attend a meeting on off camera lighting that is practical for use at weddings. What I mean by practical is if you only have yourself or you + 1 shooting the wedding, and don't have all the time in the world for a complex set up. What are easy to do off camera lighting things that can achieved in a timely fashion and with only just yourself or you plus an assistant? This would be interesting to explore.
I think the trickiest part of doing a meet up on this topic is going to be finding a good subject matter expert... once we find someone with skill in this area, organizing others to listen to them speak should be easy :)
Well what about our Organizer Mike? Maybe he could teach us what works and what doesn't.
Hi all, I would love to do a session about off camera lights (using flashes and transmitters) - would it be ok if we use ourselves as "models" and learn the techniques. or do you want to hire models.
I have Friday Feb. 4 Afternoon/ evening open, how about that time?
Good idea, Mike! Using ourself as "models" is cheapest way to learn techniques! I perfer evening as most of us have work to do on Friday.
Yeah, I can only do evenings if it's a weekday. I work down in San Jose and it takes me about an hour to get home to Burlingame. Where would such a meet take place? And I've got no qualms with using ourselves as models. I've got two 580 EX II's an ST-E2 transmitter, and some lightweight light tripods / cheap umbrella's I can bring with if additional lighting equipment is needed. Actually have a third 580 EX II's if we count the one my boyfriend owns as well.
I can't for the 4th, I have a Boy Scout dinner to be at. Maybe next time for me.
sorry guys, how about Tuesday Feb 8.
We will make it affordable - something like $50, and we will start at 5pm and go to 9pm. We can meet at Stanford university, it's a nice area. I'll make this official. See who will signup.
I'll need at least 6 people to come to make it work.
I'll also try to bring us a "model"
so is the date and time confirm yet?? 5p or 6p?? weekend or weekday??
please finalized so I can plan out the night, thank you.
Hi Alan,
We are confirmed for 6pm. on Feb 8, at Stanford university!
We will meet in front of the church, and I'll teach how to use lights for wedding portraits. How to utilize small flashes, and create great looking images. We are going to have the class! 5 people already registered. It is open for as many more who would like to join us! I'm not putting a limit on it. (I don't think we will get more then 10 people, although it will be great)
WHAT TO BRING! IMPORTANT!
Bring everything you have as far as flashes, stands, radio transmitters, pocket wizards, etc. it is always good to have it, then to need it and not have it.
You will see what I'm using. It is simple and easy to carry and setup.
This sounds like a great meetup! Wish I could make it.
Yes. It is the same meetup. It was two ideas that were the same. So I combined them. You should only register for one. See you all tomorrow.
Good morning all! We will start the workshop at 6pm sharp. I'll be in front of the church at Stanford. Bring your equipment like flashes, stands, radios, etc. If you like to join us and pay cash, you can. It will be $60 cash (to reword people who signed in advance) I'll see you all soon. If you need to reach me call 408-533-5523. Mike.
Hi all, I didn't forget about adding the link to my triggers. I have a CRAZY weekend. I'll put it here next week. Thanks for uploading photos!!! And thanks to all that came.
Mike, I enjoyed it very much and would definitely like to attend more.
HI all,
this is the seller I bought my Young Nuo from:

Look for the one that will fit your needs (Nikon / Canon) read the description carefully!
Good luck!
There is also a new receiver/transmitter available from Phottix (Strata) you can add receivers as you can afford them. They are a bit more expensive than the YoungNuo ($85 trans, $57 rec.) but have a 2.4 mg signal (30m range) and will keep TTL pass through on the transmitter. You still have wireless control on compatible flashes and can use cheaper manual flashes on the periphery at the same time. I have the shutter remote and it's great. 300 ft range w/LED actuation verification on the remote.
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
I am an amateur photographer, but would love to attend a meeting on the subject. Hope someone can organize.
